Downey UMC Accepts the Challenge to Provide a Ton of Food (literally) to the Hungry in Our Community

Last year, DUMC accepted the challenge to provide a ton of beans and rice to the local food bank to support needy families in the Downey community. We did not collect a ton of food. We collected two tons of food. This year, DUMC has again accepted the challenge to collect a ton of food for the food bank. In addition to the beans and rice that we collect and bag after worship, we also collect canned foods on special Sundays. You are welcome to bring your canned food into the church and put it in out food box.

Jesus said, "I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink...As much as you have done it to the least of these my brothers and sisters, you have done it to me."

Give so that others may live!

Reaching Out Ministries

At DUMC, we are about feeding those who hunger, whether they hunger  for faith or fellowship or food. One of the ways that we show God's love to our community is by feeding the hungry. Our "Feed the People" ministry is dedicated to feeding the hungry in our community. We regularly collect food to donate to a local food bank. We prepare emergency food stuffs that members of our congregation take with them and give to people that are in need. We also host an annual Thanksgiving meal where all are welcome to come and dine. Service begins at home, in our community, but it does not stop there. DUMC is also involved in supporting mission work abroad. We also regularly support UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief), which provides disaster relief around the world.
